Adopting the agile way of working in a bank? It’s a change that asks for drivers and motivators, a challenge Chapter Lead Joris grabbed with both hands! “There is still a lot of work, but with the current vision and support, I’m convinced that we will get there!” In October 2019 Joris chose to become a part of the Chapter Lead Programme at BNP Paribas Fortis. An offer he just couldn’t resist.

After graduating in Organizational Psychology, I started as a consultant in soft HR (recruitment, assessments, employer branding, coaching) for a year. Afterwards I worked for 2 years as HR officer at an IT & Finance Consultancy firm.  

The decision to leave my previous employer was not easy. However, joining ORMIT wasWhy? The informal, yet professional, approach of ORMIT combined with a quick follow-upAll my questions about ORMIT and BNP Paribas Fortis were patiently repliedeven got to speak to two ORMIT’ers in the Chapter Lead Program which made my decision to switch jobs a lot easier, and I am happy they are now my colleagues! 

Why did I want to become a Chapter Lead? It just felt like the perfect fit: building on my interests and experiences within people management whilst stepping into a new range of responsibilities and decision-making processes.  

Working in a bank is boring. Or not?

To be honest, working for a bank didn’t sound appealing to me. I had a stereotypical image of an archaic organisation where everything would move rather slow. 

However, after 6 months in the Chapter Lead programI had realised I was wrong.  BNP Paribas Fortis has a huge drive to build new and improved ways of working that benefits both customers and employees. Are we there yet? Not at all! There is still a lot of work, but with the current vision and support, I’m convinced that we will get there! Furthermore, as a Chapter Lead, you are expected to be one of the drivers of change. A challenge I accept every day!

Discovering a world of opportunity

When I started this talent program, I was so excited! There was so much opportunity, both with ORMIT as with BNP Paribas Fortis. 

At the ORMIT side I get to be part of a community of highly driven professionalsI feel supported throughout my journey by my coach and get to participate in a range of trainings that challenge me on a real personal level. I’m pretty sure it might have taken me 10 years in other companies to get this much training! 

At the BNP Paribas Fortis side, I get to join a big organisation in a challenging environment. Which means having possibilities by exploring different roles in different tribes before settling into my fixed position as a Chapter Lead.
